INITIATIVE TIMELINE
April 2024 to December 2024
OVERVIEW
Penn State’s Commonwealth Campuses have launched an initiative to refine our collective vision for the Commonwealth Campus structure, in a process that broadly engages faculty, staff, students and external stakeholders. Committees at each of the 20 campuses are engaging in a two-part process, to first gather information and input, and to then design “conceptual models” featuring innovative ideas for a sustainable future for their campuses. Charrette Committees will work in parallel to gather regional-scale input from external partners to help inform the work of the Campus Committees. The conceptual models designed by the Campus Committees will be shared for input with the university and external stakeholders.
THE IMPACT
Phase I of the Penn State Strategic Plan has identified Priority Areas for the University, and the concurrent Academic Portfolio and Program Review Process will help connect University academics with our mission and goals. Strategically timed to connect with these university-wide planning processes, and mindful of the need to move towards a more sustainable financial model, Future State will use an information- and outreach-based approach to foster outside-the-box thinking about the future our Commonwealth Campuses—individually and collectively.
GOALS
- Identify distinct areas of excellence of the individual Commonwealth Campuses, while concurrently defining regional themes and synergies.
- Refine our collective vision for the Commonwealth Campus structure, including developing innovative ideas for a sustainable future.
PHASES
- Campus Committee “Information Gathering Phase” – Continuing through October 2024. During this phase, Regional Charrette Committees will also gather regional-scale input from stakeholders to help inform the following phase of the Campus Committee work.
- Campus Committee “Design Phase” – November 2024.
- Model Vetting Phase – After the Campus Committees adjourn, we will seek input on the conceptual models from the broader University community and external stakeholders.
