Biography
As the Assistant Director of Financial Operations in the Office of the Vice President for Commonwealth Campuses (OVPCC), Brian provides operational oversight and guidance to 20 campus locations. He is a primary contact and resource for OVPCC leadership, campus financial officers, and other university leaders on all matters relating to budget and finance at the commonwealth campuses.
Brian oversees the budget development and execution process for the campuses and advises on a wide range of topics relating to financial policy, processes, and procedures. He leads many initiatives that include training, audit and compliance, chart-of-accounts design, reorganizations, multi-year commitment tracking, data analysis, and reporting. Brian serves on numerous university-wide committees and groups to assist with evaluating system enhancements, process documentation, and recommending policy and procedural changes.
Prior to joining the OVPCC, Brian was part of the implementation team that replaced a 50-year-old legacy system at Penn State with the new enterprise system SIMBA (SAP S/4HANA). He worked tirelessly to ensure that project deliverables were met on-time, and that key information was shared regularly with stakeholders. Before that, Brian worked in the University Budget Office preparing reports and presentations for the President, Provost, University Budget Officer, and the Board of Trustees. He assisted with the implementation and monitoring of the University’s 5.1B annual operating budget. Brian’s first position at Penn State was in the Office of Global Programs serving as a Financial Coordinator. There he found a passion for higher education, engaging with students, and assisted with the financial oversight of 250+ Education Abroad programs.
