Dr. Kelly M. Austin began serving as the vice president for Commonwealth Campuses and executive chancellor of The Pennsylvania State University on January 17, 2022.  In this role, Austin has oversight of Penn State’s 20 Commonwealth Campuses, which enroll 27,000 students in associate, baccalaureate, and graduate degree programs.  The senior vice president and executive chancellor provides leadership for the University’s multiple missions of teaching, research and service across Pennsylvania and is responsible for the academic and administrative programs and operations of the Commonwealth Campuses, including strategic and facilities planning.  Austin also serves as the budget executive for the Commonwealth Campuses.
 
Austin joined Penn State in 2012, serving as chancellor at Penn State Schuylkill until 2017. In 2017, Dr. Austin was named associate vice president for administration, Commonwealth Campuses of The Pennsylvania State University. Prior to joining Penn State, Dr. Austin was vice president of finance and administration at the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown from 2008 to 2012. While at Pitt-Johnstown, he also served as vice president of student affairs and director of student union and student activities. Previously, Dr. Austin served in multiple roles working directly with students at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, Florida.
   
Austin earned his doctoral degree in social and comparative analysis in education from the University of Pittsburgh, MBA from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, master’s degree in student personnel administration and bachelor of science degree in business administration/business management, from Slippery Rock University.
