John J. Romano is the Vice President for Commonwealth Campuses of Penn State.
The Vice President for Commonwealth Campuses reports directly to the Executive Vice President and Provost and is the University's senior officer responsible for oversight of Penn State's 19 undergraduate campuses. In this capacity, he is charged with developing regional clusters of activity and resource sharing among Penn State campuses in order to facilitate programmatic collaboration, cost savings, and more effective use of resources. This includes responsibility for promoting curricular integration across all Commonwealth campuses, and with University Park academic colleges, to ensure a common foundation for all students as they proceed through their major programs. The Vice President for Commonwealth Campuses also integrates student recruitment and retention strategies across the Commonwealth campuses.
The Vice President for Commonwealth Campuses has a special responsibility as Dean of the University College. As Dean, he provides academic leadership on curricular matters and promotion and tenure review for the 14 campuses not currently having College status.
